In a move aimed at transforming the lives of small and marginal farmers, the Government of India has launched a new integrated welfare initiative titled “Kisan Samriddhi Yojana” (KSY). Announced in early 2025, this scheme is designed to go beyond direct income support by bundling together multiple welfare services—insurance, credit support, farm input subsidies, and market linkage—under one umbrella.
This multi-faceted program is being viewed as a successor and upgrade to earlier fragmented schemes and intends to bridge gaps in rural development with a farm-to-income approach.

🔍 What is Kisan Samriddhi Yojana?
The KSY is a centrally sponsored scheme focusing on empowering farmers not just through cash transfers, but also through improved access to services that support the entire agricultural lifecycle—from sowing to selling.
The scheme targets:
- Small and marginal farmers (owning <2 hectares)
- Women farmers
- Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) farmers
🌿 Key Features of the Scheme
- Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of ₹10,000/year
- Distributed in three installments to support purchase of seeds, fertilizers, and labor wages.
- Free Crop Insurance up to ₹1 lakh
- Covers climate events, pest outbreaks, and market shocks.
- Fully government-funded premiums for eligible farmers.
- Interest-Free Farm Loans up to ₹1.5 lakh
- Provided via nationalized banks and regional rural banks.
- Loans to be repaid post-harvest with a 12-month grace period.
- Subsidy for Solar Pumps and Drip Irrigation
- 70% subsidy for renewable energy irrigation tools.
- Priority to regions facing water stress and erratic rainfall.
- Dedicated Market Linkage Support
- Integration with eNAM (National Agricultural Market) for digital sale.
- Training programs to help farmers form Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).
🧑🌾 Farmer Reactions & Impact
Farmers across the states have responded positively to the scheme. Shanta Devi, a woman farmer from Chhattisgarh, said:
“Earlier, I could only cultivate one crop due to limited resources. With this scheme, I’m now planning a second crop with better inputs and confidence.”
Experts believe that this comprehensive model could reduce rural indebtedness and lead to a 10–15% increase in net farmer income over the next three years.
