Alarmingly, the findings revealed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>63% of samples lacked sufficient nitrogen<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>48% were low in organic carbon<\/strong>, a key indicator of soil vitality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Soil erosion and salinity<\/strong> are increasing in rain-fed regions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Microbial biodiversity<\/strong> is shrinking due to excessive pesticide use<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Sharma explains, \u201cOur soil is losing its life. Fertilizers and irrigation help in the short run, but we are slowly depleting the natural fertility which sustained us for centuries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83e\uddea <strong>The Human Impact<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Poor soil health directly translates to <strong>lower yields<\/strong>, <strong>increased input costs<\/strong>, and <strong>weaker resilience<\/strong> to climate shocks. Marginal and small-scale farmers are the worst hit, as they often lack the resources or knowledge to address these issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report draws a clear connection between <strong>poor soil health<\/strong> and <strong>debt cycles<\/strong> in farming communities, as deteriorating productivity forces farmers to invest more in synthetic inputs with diminishing returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udca1 <strong>Recommendations from the Report<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The NBSS&amp;LUP provides a roadmap for reversing the trend, focusing on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Promoting organic amendments<\/strong> like compost and green manure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Encouraging crop rotation and cover cropping<\/strong> to rebuild soil structure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Using bio-fertilizers and microbial inoculants<\/strong> to rejuvenate microbial life<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Policy-level incentives<\/strong> for soil testing and restoration programs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Training farmers<\/strong> in soil conservation techniques<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Sharma emphasizes, \u201cWe must treat soil as a living resource, not just a medium to grow crops.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udde3\ufe0f <strong>What Farmers and Experts Are Saying<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Field interviews included in the report show mixed awareness among farmers. While some regions, especially in Kerala and parts of Punjab, have adopted organic and regenerative practices, others remain heavily dependent on chemical inputs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manoj Desai, a farmer from Gujarat, says, \u201cI didn\u2019t realize my soil was dead until I started seeing cracks even after watering.
